Ukrainian police said on Friday that “about 20,000” people need to be evacuated from areas across the border from Russia’s Kursk region – a sharp increase from a previous estimate of 6,000. The statement comes four days after Ukrainian forces broke across the border into Kursk, advancing to 10 kilometres into Kursk according to the US-based Institute for the Study of War.
